I'm currently an online reporter at the Erie Times-News in Erie, Pa. I work on GoErie.com while writing breaking news and enterprise stories.

South Florida Sun Sentinel

I worked on computer-assisted reporting projects from November 2008 to February 2009 as an intern with the investigations team at the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Most of these were long-term investigations or news features that I pursued on my own or with other reporters.

I often negotiated with public agencies to obtain databases that I later scrutinized for stories. These included travel expenses, jail bookings, plane crashes, traffic citations, animal licenses, vehicle accidents and court records. Some databases were posted online while others were used for map mashups.

My other duties involved conducting research using LexisNexis, public records and various online resources.

Atlanta Journal-Constitution

After graduating college, I completed a computer-assisted reporting internship at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

I analyzed data obtained via public records requests on parking tickets, crime, university travel expenditures, transportation and other topics. The analysis was highlighted in stories, and I used the data to build databases and map mashups for ajc.com.

I also wrote articles for the paper's Metro section. A few clips and Web projects from the internship are posted on the portfolio page.

Peoria Journal Star

I spent the spring of 2008 as a general assignment reporter intern at the Peoria Journal Star. On most days, I covered the cops beat and reported on any breaking news. Other stories ranged from press conferences and public meetings to weekend charity events.

For some stories, I also shot video for the paper's website, pjstar.com.

Flyer News

I spent my college years on the staff of the Flyer News, the University of Dayton's student newspaper. I served as the paper's Web editor while writing articles.

WHIO-AM Radio

While taking classes at the University of Dayton, I worked part time at WHIO-AM, a local radio station. My main responsibility was to write news updates for the station’s web site.

I also assisted the news team with a variety of different tasks, including editing audio clips, monitoring the AP wire and conducting interviews.
